But who, or what were Tzitzimitl? Well, according to the Aztecs, they were female celestial beings or "minor deities" who had skeletal qualities and spent their day job looking after stars. However, if there was a solar eclipse, they'd descend to earth and possess the souls of men. Serious business! Protectors of feminity, and a potential scourge of masculinity, Tzitzimitl were both worshiped and feared. I don't know about you, but I reckon this deserves a rendering in acrylic and spray paint 💀🖤
